My mother used to tell us a story when we were children: “We must not shout and wave at the Northern Lights because then would come and get us. This had more an opposite effect since we wanted to test this glimmering and waving lights so far up in the sky over Helgøy. Often we shouted and waved at the Aurora dancing in the sky and often the lights suddenly got bigger and bigger and started moving faster and faster. Of course, we suddenly believed in the story so we got scared and ran home as fast as we could to hide under the bed or behind our mother.”

Lady Aurora is unpredictable. She can come late or early or not at all. We need good weather to see her, or at least an opening in the clouds. When she first shows herself and you experience the beauty of the natural surroundings and the quietness outside of the big cities you will get an encounter you never forget. Come with us in the evenings and sit around a fire on the beach, go on a walk or just go outside the house, there are many opportunities on Helgøy.
