The island Helgøy has a long history that dates back till 4000 years BC. Evidence of settlements of the Stone age, of the iron age and of the middle age has been found.
During 1800 and 1900 Helgøy grew to an important municipality centre. The steamboat pier generated traffic of people and goods that brought trade and other daily services like a post office, an administration. a court and of course a church with it.
The island was central for municipality administration, but then in 1964 Helgøy was united with Karlsøy Kommune. Today, all permanent residents have left and the island is mainly used for recreation by relatives of earlier residents.
Helgøy is rich of history, nature and stories. This is why we decided to design the mansion “Fila” in line with the traditions of the former habitants.
Nonetheless, design and comfort are adjusted to the needs of the modern traveller.
